Le ventre de Paris
Project in progress
2023
The project is a research based on the novel "Le ventre de Paris" by Emile Zola. I have focused on the poetical and political potential of this novel and how it portrays the city centre of Paris. Nowadays, the place where the novel takes place is still a market, a big mall where lots of people from the outskirts of the city come to do the shopping. It is the perfect place to make a social analysis on how power relationship based on class, gender and race are at the core of urban planning.
The hybridization of theory and practice is essential to carry on this project. From Emile Zola's book to modern architectural theory, I have enjoyed my time in Paris to consume a wide range of references and bibliography. I have visited many libraries such as the Bibliothèque Historique de la Ville de Paris, the INHA, Bibliothèque Kandisnky, Bibliothèque Mazarino, or Bibliothèque Publique d'Information as well as some Archives.
I have built part of the video installation and some objects made out of recycled materials found at the city.
Then, I have made available this process through a talk / event at the Cité des Arts where everyone was invited.
I have collaborated with other artists in the city and professionals such as curators and writers and I've host some studio visits with the Friends of Palais de Tokyo and I've participated in a group show in Villa Belleville.
